The Louisiana DEQ's mission is to serve the people of Louisiana through comprehensive environmental protection that promotes and protects health, safety and welfare while considering sound policies regarding employment and economic development. To carry out its mission, the Louisiana DEQ Office of Environmental Services regulates and issues permits, and provides educational materials. The Office of Environmental Compliance inspects permitted facilities and activities, responds to environmental emergencies, and issues sound enforcement actions. The Office of Environmental Assessment develops and implements environmental regulations, constructs strategic plans, inventories and monitors emissions, and issues reports on compliance, technical, and remediation issues.
